The Irthington Parish Registers (a small parish near Carlisle, England) have note of Edward Mulcaster, baptized March 11, 1805.
He immigrated to Canada (1828), and settled in Huron County (near Goderich, Ontario) He purchased land from the Canada Company, lot 12, concession 2, Goderich Township, Huron County.
He married Esther Cottrell who was born in Hertfordshire, England, 1811/12?. They had four children and spent their married life in Goderich, Ontario area where she died April 2nd, 1851 (two weeks after the birth of their youngest son, Thomas. She is buried at the Maitland Cemetery, Goderich, Ontario and is listed in the Huron O.G.S. Maitland Cemetery Index as being in Section G #220. The actual location according to the Maitland Cemetery maps is Lot Range E, Section 6, Lot #119 and is listed under Edward Mulcaster. As of November 1997, the white marble stone in the ground is in excellent condition and reads as follows: -

Edward Mulcaster and his son(s) purchased land in Gosfield North Township, Concession 8, County of Essex in 1873. Edward and his youngest son George came to Essex County cross country and through the bush to the land they purchased and spend the winter of 1873 on the land. The rest of the family came later. The story as told by Edward's great grandson, Arnold Deane Mulcaster, is that Edward and George built and lived in a shed that was approximately three (3) logs high and probably no bigger than 12 feet square. They had four children:

[1] RICHARD MULCASTER
Was born 1844 in Goderich Township, County of Huron. He died in Essex County in 1921 and is buried in Northridge Cemetary, Gosfield North Township.
He married first at age 24 in 1868 to
(1) REBECA SARGANT, born 1851 or 1852. She died September 23, 1898 in her 47th year in Northridge Cemetery and in same plot with Richard and his second wife Eliza Batten Mulcaster. They moved to Gosfield North with his father and brothers and then later moved to Windsor. They had 10 children.
After Rebecca's death Richard married again to (1900?)
(2) - ELIZA BATTEN, born 1861 and died in 1936. They had no children.

[3] MARY MULCASTER
She was born in 1846, in Goderich Township, County of Huron. She died in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on September 12, 1903 and is buried in the Nutana Cemetery.
On December 24, 1866 she married ROBERT DULMAGE in Goderich, (Wesylan Methodist Church Records) with Wellington McCutty of Hullett and Mary Churchill of Goderich as witnesses.
Robert Dulmage was the son of Jonathan and Christina Dulmage of Morris Township, Huron County.
At that time he was a teacher at the S.S. #6 Union School, Goderich Township in 1865-66.(1) (The school was located only a mile or so from the Mulcaster farm). After they were married they moved to the Northwest Territories (now Saskatchewan) and in Mary Dulmage's death notice he is said to have been a tinsmith. There are descendants today in Saskatchewan from her family. They had four (4) children)

was born March 16, 1851 and baptized April 13, 1851 (Weslyan Methodist Church Records) in Goderich Township, County of Huron. His mother died the same year. He died in 1862 at age 11. There is no record of his death or place of burial in Goderich Township

[2] GEORGE MULCASTER
George Mulcaster was born July 14, 1848, and baptized on April 13, 1851 along with his brother, Thomas, at the Township of Goderich, Huron County, Ontario, Canada. He bought property with his father in Gosfield North Township in 1873. He died in August 1919 and is buried at Greenhill Cemetery, Kingsville, Ontario. Death notice appeared in the Leamington Newspaper - August 28, 1919 at page 2. George Mulcaster married twice
(1) - (1870) JANE LIPPATT/LIPPETT, born December 8, 1848, daughter of Samuel Lippatt of Huron County. She married George Mulcaster in 1870. She died December 2, 1884 and is buried in the Cottam Cemetary.

She was born February 25, 1954, and was raised in Darlington, England. She married George Mulcaster in 1886. She died in 1940. She was the daughter of Capt. Richard and Rebecca Thomas of England. Her siblings were -
(1) Mary Thomas who married Garance Haynes of Mitchell;
(2) Lazarus Thomas of Gosfield North; and
(3) Joseph Thomas who married and had three children - Ann, Lotta and Vida.

Thomas Edward Mulcaster was born in October 11, 1871 at Goderich, Ontario. He died in 1954 and was buried at Greenhill Cemetery, Kingsville, Ontario. He married SELENA M. LEWIS (Lena), born September 22, 1876, died 1964, buried at Greenhill Cemetery, Kingsville, Ontario

GEORGE WILLIAM MULCASTER, known at Billie, was born on the farm in Gosfield North Township, 8th Concession on October 18, 1877. He died January 12, 1972 and was buried at Greenhill Cemetery, Kingsville, Ontario. He attended school a short time at the 7th concession of Gosfield North. He worked as a farmer all of his life. MARY MELINDA SALTER, known as Linnie who was born in Colchester North Township, on February 28, 1883, the daughter of James Salter, b. February 14, 1847 in St. Tudy, Cornwall, England and Esther Robb b. April 6, 1858 in Lower Canada.

[1] DESCENDANTS OF HILDA LORAINE MULCASTER AND ELMER LANDON
HILDA LORAINE MULCASTER was born on July 17, 1904 at Colchester North, died 2000. On August 12, 1929 she married ELMER LANDON who was born on February 19, 1900, died ?. They had one childElmer Landon disappeared 1931-32(?) and Hilda returned to lived with her parents in Colchester North, South Malden Road until 1940 when she moved back to Windsor after getting a job with the government in the Employment office. She worked there until she retired.
[2] HORACE GLEN MULCASTER
HORACE GLEN MULCASTER was born July 15, 1906. As told by Hilda Landon, at that time school began after Easter in the spring of the year. Hilda started grade 1 that Spring of 1910 (April), and Horace was still too young to start school ( only 3 years old at the time). Being without Hilda to play with he went to play outside on his own around the farm. He came into the house and asked his mother for a drink. He didn't want any milk but only water and once he had drunk the water he went into convulsions and died on April 14, 1910. His pockets were full of toadstools and although not confirmed by a doctor it was assumed that he died from eating poisoned toadstools. Inscription on a heart shaped small headstone: Horace Glen son of G. Wm. and Mary M. Mulcaster died April 14, 1910 ages 3 years, 9 mos. He is buried at the Cottam Cemetery , Cottam, Ontario in the Anglican Section.]

MARVIN LLOYD MULCASTER was born May 21, 1909. He died February 19, 1993 and was buried at Greenhill Cemetery, Kingsville. He married Velma Barlow at the Gesto Parsonage. They had 2 children.
[4] DESCENDANTS OF ARNOLD DEAN(E) MULCASTER AND MARY ALICE DENISON
ARNOLD DEAN(E) MULCASTER was born November 2, 1914 at Colchester North at his parents home. Attended public school at the Batten School, S.S. No. 6, Colchester North and High School at Essex District High. On May 11, 1935 he married MARY ALICE DENISON who was born August 28, 1915 at Miller City, Ohio, USA. She came to Canada with her family on October 27, 1920. She died November 8, 1991 at Essex and buried at Greenhill Cemetery, Kingsville. After their marriage they lived at Marvin's home until the fall of 1940 when they moved into the Mulcaster farm (as his mother and father moved to Essex until 1946 and then they returned to the farm) and on the May 24th weekend 1947 they moved into their home on the 10th Concession. They had 7 children, all of which were born at home except their youngest child was born in the hospital at Windsor.

MURRAY JAMES MULCASTER Was born on March 30, 1930. He died December 23, 1979 and was buried at Greenhill Cemetery, Kingsville. (never married)
